Understanding How The Bail Process Works

If someone you care about has landed themselves in jail, then you want to learn everything you can about bail and a bondsman. This way, you are going to be in a better position to help them to get out of jail until their court hearing. This can be a pretty big deal, since it can take a long time for cases to finally go to court. This article is going to help you to have a much better understanding of bail and how the process works.

How bail works

When your friend or family member is arrested, they will go before a judge for a bail hearing rather quickly. During this hearing the judge will hear information about the case and your loved one that they will use to determine how much bail should be set at and even if they should be granted bail at all. Once bail is set, someone can go to a bail bondsman with 10% of the amount of the bail and collateral. The bondsman will put up the rest of the bail to help you to get your loved one released from jail until their court date.

Your collateral must be worth the amount you are asking for

You need to be able to offer collateral to the bondsman that is worth the amount that you are expecting them to put up to get your loved one out of jail. For example, if their bail has been set at $50,000, then you are not going to be able to put up a car that is only worth $30,000.

You can help find the person, you may be able to save your collateral

If your loved one skips out on court, then you may be offered a chance at still keeping your collateral. You will have to tell the bondsman where they can be found and they will be picked up and forced to go to their court date. This can be a good way to save your collateral in a worst-case scenario.

Bail is easy to get

As long as bail has been offered at an amount you can cover with collateral, you will find that the process is very simple. You can find a 24 hour bondsman willing to help you at a moments notice, so you can get your loved one home quickly. The process doesn't take long and is simple to get through.
